Fund Raising. How can you help?
Short Term:
Direct Contrbuitions:
The easiest way to make a gift to the COMRC is
to simply fill out the letter of intent and send it in with a check payable
to COMRC. Those who wish to pay their gift over time may make pledges.
Campaign pledges are payable monthly, quarterly, or yearly for up to three
years.
Appreciated Securities:
It might be advantageous for some donors to contribute appreciated stock. By donating securities or property
owned for more than one year, the donor pays no capital gains tax on the appreciation, yet receives a tax
deduction for the full, fair market value of the property. Instructions for electronic transfer of securities
are included among the attachments.
Corporate Matching Gifts:
Many corporations will match the charitable contributions of their employees. If you work for a company that
matches donations, you should send in the matching gift application with your contribution.
Long Term:
The COMRC would like to expand. Preliminary plans include a self sustaining building that would be a
destination attraction in the Central Ohio market. The building would house working layouts in all scales
on display to the visiting public. The facility would include a educational auditorium and work room space,
museum area for local railroad artifacts, a small gift shop and pending real estate availability a working 1/3
scale outdoor train ride. This expansion addresses the immediate requirement to provide funding for the
construction, furnishing, and equipment needs of the museum. However, the museum will need funds for its
maintenance on an ongoing basis.
Please consult with your legal counsel for the most appropriate planning for you. The longterm needs can be
met through: Bequests. By naming the Central Ohio Model Railroad Club Endowment Fund as a beneficiary in your
will, you will help sustain an endowment that will support the museum far into the future.
Charitable Trusts. Donors can continue to provide income (often greater income) for themselves and their
families by funding a charitable trust with an asset usually appreciated stocks or real property. This
approach provides a future donation for the Central Ohio Model Railroad Club Endowment Fund, while offering
current tax savings as well as income.

Railroad clothing of era (must be clean and in usable condition)
Railroad Spikes (must be in usable condition)

Donation is defined as gift or as a voluntary transfer of property made gratuitously,
and not for any consideration. A gift inter vivos is perfected when there is intent of
the donor to make a gift, a delivery of the gift, and an acceptance by the donee.
Control over the subject of the gift is lost by the donor upon delivery,
and the gift takes effect immediately. There can be no revocation of such a gift by the donor.
Final appraisal and disposition of materials shall be decided by the Board of trustees by any
means suited for there reporting purpose. The monetary value of the donation may be subject to
annual review for insurance purposes.
All donations and bequests are tax deductible under federal and state tax provisions.
The COMRC Inc is an exempt institution under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.
